"Interning abroad will allow you to learn more than you ever could in a classroom, with tangible cultural insights and knowledge."
It is sadly time to say good-bye to our great intern, Tom Goodall-Halliwell. He is a third year student from the Gustavson School of Business at the University of Victoria in Canada. Here is what he had to say about living abroad in Japan, and what he learned during his 3.5 months internship at Apex.
WHY I CHOSE APEX
"I decided to work at Apex for a summer internship because I wanted the opportunity to gain valuable work experience and travel. The Apex internship program allows students to experience working at a global business while living abroad, so it is truly the ideal solution for young people with a desire for adventure."
LIFE IN TOKYO
"Living in Tokyo is an incredible experience. Living in a foreign country is far different than simply visiting as a tourist, and especially in Tokyo, provides a completely different experience. Working and building friendships with Japanese people affords a unique cultural insight that cannot be gained from visiting a place for a short period of time."
INTERNSHIP ABROAD
"Interning abroad will allow you to learn more than you ever could in a classroom, with tangible cultural insights and knowledge. My favorite part of the internship so far has been learning the intricacies of Japanese culture and tradition, and how that ties into Japanese cultural identity and the Japanese workplace."
COMMUNITY FEELING IN JAPAN
"My experience in Tokyo has been overwhelming and exciting, the city is chock full of stunning city sights, incredible street food, and amazing people. The most shocking thing that I experienced is how much more of a community feeling Japan has than Canada. It is incredibly easy to make friends with Japanese people, even when they speak only a little bit of English they are always excited to talk and become outgoing very quickly."
MESSAGE FOR FUTURE INTERNS
"I would recommend the Apex internship for anyone who wants experience living abroad, but is worried about falling behind in school. It allows students to get a once-in-a-lifetime experience in an incredible placewhile maintaining their academic trajectory."
